Draft for discussion, not yet in force. 20 October 2026.

For app authors

Developer terms

These terms describe how an author publishes an app in the Extella store and how money is shared. This is a first draft in plain language. It has not been reviewed by a lawyer and may change before it comes into force.

1 Parties

  1. 1.1 Extella: the store operator, Chariot Technologies Lab., Inc., a US company that runs Extella and its store.
  2. 1.2 The author: the person or company who publishes an app in the store from their own Extella account.
  3. 1.3 The user: anyone who gets an app from the store.

2 What the author grants

  1. 2.1 The author allows Extella to distribute the listing in the Extella store: to show its name, description and images, and to deliver the app to users who get it.
  2. 2.2 The author keeps all rights to the app. The arrangement is not exclusive: the author may distribute the app anywhere else.

3 What the author confirms

  1. 3.1 The author has the rights to publish the app.
  2. 3.2 The licences of every component in the app are respected. Apps under GPL or AGPL are listed free, with the source of the build published next to the listing.
  3. 3.3 The app contains no malware and does nothing harmful to the user's computer or data.
  4. 3.4 The app does not collect or send data that the listing does not disclose.

4 Revenue share and prices

  1. 4.1 The author sets the price of the listing, or makes it free.
  2. 4.2 Of every sale, 70% goes to the author and 30% to Extella. Extella spends its share on marketing and supporting the apps.
  3. 4.3 Prices are in credits. The current rate is 10,000 credits = USD 15. Purchases are one-time.
  4. 4.4 There are no other fees. Free apps pay nothing, except a referral listing for the sales through its link.

5 Referral listings

  1. 5.1 A referral listing is free in the store. Its installer downloads the author's official installer as it is. The app opens in its own window, and the listing says so.
  2. 5.2 The user buys the paid version in the author's own checkout, through a link with ?ref=extella. The author handles payment, refunds and support.
  3. 5.3 Once a month the author sends Extella a report of sales that came through that link and pays Chariot Technologies Lab., Inc. 30% of those sales.
  4. 5.4 A free listing whose paid part (Pro, plans, licences, subscriptions) is sold on the author's own site is a referral listing. Its buy or pricing link must carry Extella's mark: ?ref=extella, utm_source=extella, or the author's affiliate link for Extella. The monthly report and the 30% above apply to the sales that come through it.
  5. 5.5 A free listing without such a link stays in the store, but Extella does not promote it or include it in collections.
  6. 5.6 Extella checks these sales by the report only. It does not ask for access to the author's checkout, source code or signing credentials.
  7. 5.7 The sections on revenue share, payouts and refunds apply to store listings. Either side may end a referral listing with notice to the other.

6 Payouts and taxes

  1. 6.1 Extella pays the author's share by hand, once a week, when it has reached USD 100.
  2. 6.2 The usual method is a bank transfer in USD to the account the author gives. A card payout is possible by agreement. The author's bank may charge its own fee.
  3. 6.3 A small test payout below the minimum can be arranged to check the details.
  4. 6.4 The author is responsible for taxes on their income.

7 Refunds and chargebacks

  1. 7.1 Refunds and chargebacks on the author's app are borne by the author: the amount is deducted from the author's share.

8 Updates

  1. 8.1 The author updates the app by uploading a new version to the listing.
  2. 8.2 Users who already got the app receive later versions without paying again.
  3. 8.3 The price applies to the whole listing. A price change does not charge users who already have the app.

9 Removal from the store

  1. 9.1 The author can unpublish the app at any time.
  2. 9.2 Extella can remove an app that breaks these terms or the law. Where possible, Extella tells the author first and explains why.

10 Privacy

  1. 10.1 Apps run on the user's computer.
  2. 10.2 Extella sees what the store needs to work: accounts, listings, versions, purchases and payments. Extella does not use the author's app to collect users' data.
  3. 10.3 If the author's app sends data anywhere, the author says so in the listing and is responsible for it.

11 Liability

  1. 11.1 Extella provides the store as it is and does not guarantee traffic, installs or sales.
  2. 11.2 The author is responsible for the app and for what it does on users' computers.
  3. 11.3 If Extella stops working, store copies of apps stop working with it. The limits of each party's liability will be set after legal review.

12 Changes to these terms

  1. 12.1 Extella may change these terms. Authors are told about a change in advance, and the change applies from the date given in the notice.
